Whenever I've been coached/encouraged to "be more cutthroat" or in other words to "be more like them*" the person who has done that coaching has been fucked over by the same system they encouraged me to be a part of.
G.B. was the spoiled son of a Hollywood giant. His father being quite successful in his own right. But I would bet anything that G.B. never saw his father use Machiavellian tactics or coach others to do so.
At the time I was shocked by the blunt ruthless nature of his conversation, but now I realize that it was something his mother had espoused not necessarily his successful father. With a bit of a conceptual leap I can guess that it sprung from her disdain toward his father. She was jealous of all that orchestra pussy that his dad was snackin' on.
*Them = equals leadership, management, etc. where I am employed.
